結構︰not …… because …

如：

I don't love her because she is beautiful.我不是因為他漂亮才愛她的。

此句型意為“並非因為…而…”。使用本句型時，because之前不可有逗點，否則意思完全不同有時得從because子句的邏輯來判斷意思。

You must not despise a man because he is poor.你不可因一個人貧窮而輕視他。

I do not love him because he is rich.(I love him not because he is rich.)我不是因為他有錢才愛他的。

I do not respect him because he is playful.我不尊敬他，因為他貪玩。

I do not respect him because he is knowledgeable.我並非因為他有學問而尊敬他。

更多例句:

The motor did not stop running because the fuel was finished.摩托車停止轉動，不是因為燃料用完。（而是因為其它毛病）

These rings are not valued because they are set with precious stones.

這些指環的價值並不在於它們鑲有寶石。

但我們不能把所有的not …use句子都看作是特殊結構

例如：

He did not come to the studio this morning because he was sick.

今早他沒有來片場，因為他病了。

這裡的not是說明come，不是修飾because。如譯為："他今早沒來片場並不是因為他生病（而是為了其他的原因）"。顯而易見，這樣的理解和翻譯是錯誤而且不通的。
